PHILANTHROPIC PARTNERSHIP HELPS FUND SOCIAL MEDIA EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR ATHLETIC DEPARTMENTS DURING THE 2017 NCAA CONVENTION.

15 Collegiate Stakeholders to Deploy the SM2 Digital Driver’s Education Programs

Across their Athletic Departments.

NASHVILLE, TN (January 17, 2017) – Committed to positively impacting the social media culture in collegiate athletics, Social Media Sports Management (SM2) and The National Social Media Initiative in Athletics announced funding incentives for 15 Athletic Departments during the 2017 NCAA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee.

“The NCAA Convention is one of the most important conferences in collegiate athletics. From legislation to networking, it is vital for us to bring something valuable to the participants and the Association,” stated Carrie G. Cecil, CEO, SM2. “By helping provide necessary social media education to Convention attendees we continue to cement our mission to positively impact the social media culture in sports.”

The SM2 team will partner with 15 collegiate athletic departments to provide social media education programs from January 2017 through June 2018 with partial and full funding. The SM2 programs are gleaned from the United States Government and FORTUNE® 500 companies as well as valuable lessons and positive instructions amassed from collegiate social media victories and defeats nationwide. The collegiate athletic programs cover a litany of crucial cyber safety, legal and empowerment topics and provide the user and Institution with necessary assessments and completion certification.

“There are parallels between our program’s methodology and drivers education or sex education. It’s a comprehensive solution vs. the amusing humiliation, scare or just say no tactics—those don’t work for sex ed and they don’t work for social networking users in college sports.” Cecil continued. “Sadly social media life skills have fallen on the shoulders of athletic directors, staff and coaches and it belongs with digital educators, thus we’re plugging-in to help our amazing partners deploy cost-effective and thoughtful programs to mitigate risk and empower their people!”
